The object title should describe or identify the object or work as clearly as possible. It should not be identical to the Object type or designation element. The title may have been given by the creator of the object, or it may be a name commonly used in literature for the individual object. If an object title is not available or known, one can be constructed for online publication. If the object title is composed of multiple data elements, it should be concise and clear to ensure digital accessibility. In such cases, a combination of Object type or designation with one of the following pieces of information is recommended: Inventory number, Date, or Technique.

The element can be repeated to indicate original titles, alternative titles, etc. In natural history, the scientific name should be used as the object title, with the common name optionally included as an alternative title. Both name or title forms must be supplemented with the Inventory number to create a unique title for the object.

CARE: The designation of an collection item from colonial contexts in its country of origin or source community is important for identification and findability. These designations should therefore be included and, where appropriate, prioritised.
